My name is Debby Seme, born Debby Batchelder. I recently retired from thirty plus years in higher ed publishing, and this blog is about my making the transition from the crazy corporate work world to the wonderful wacky retirement world. Like everything else that we baby-boomers have done, we seem to be remaking retirement – it’s certainly not our parents’ retirement. My former career left me little time for introspection, for discovery, for nurturing the part of me that doesn’t care about bottom line profits. There was never a time when I could say, “Great. I’m done.” Just as we wrapped up one sales year, we were frantically prepping for the next one. A few vacation weeks were the only time that I was able to get off the manic merry-go-round and think about something other than the demands of my job.
Now that I finally got to say, “I’m done!” with my former career, I am in the process of creating a new life for myself. It’s the last third of my life, and I am going to do what I can to make the most of it. For those of you contemplating retirement or for those of you just dreaming about it, I hope this blog speaks to you and that we start a dialogue. I welcome your comments and feedback, and if you prefer to contact me directly, you can do so at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks and welcome!
